Requesting Signed Copy of Tax Returns and W2?

I was accepted to Tulane as a transfer. I just checked my Gibson portal, and they are requesting that I submit a signed copy of my parents’ 2016 tax returns and W2s. I submitted the CSS and FAFSA… Why would they be requesting this? I am going to send all of it in, but I am just curious as to what it means… Never was asked before.

@aznboi4981 We were asked to do that by every school that my son applied to that required the CSS profile. It’s basically just you providing proof that what you wrote on CSS Profile is accurate. You can imagine since there is thousands of dollars of potential grant aid at stake with each application, it’s fair that they would like a little documention.

@EDHDAD Absolutely! I remembered this morning that I had to do the same for a few schools I applied to as a freshman applicant.

By any chance do you know if I need to submit just the first two pages of the tax return? I cannot seem to locate any formal directions.

@aznboi4981 I asked my wife and she said we just did the first two pages.

You need to send what they ask for. If they want the full return, send the full return. We had to do this for every school. So did my ex-H, and we had to fill out extra paperwork on my business. Plus, different schools wanted us to send the docs in different ways. Some wanted iDOC, some wanted email, some only took faxes or mail.

@intparent @EDHDAD Just faxed over the first two pages (only pages I saw, haha) along with the W2s and a cover letter. If they need anything else, I’ll send it in separately. Thank you both!

@intparent My wife I are both standard W-2 employees with no businesse, rentals, etc. so our tax return is very simple and we knew in advance we would not get any need based money so they probably did not need as much from us.

The iDOC schools have a very specific list of schedules they want to see if you filed them. My taxes are kind of complex, so I had to provide quite a few of them. :frowning:
