Required courses in LSA?

What courses are required in LSA? I know there is a credit requirement (of course) but I am more concerned with specific classes that need to be taken (such as language or a science).

You are required to take Freshman English (124 or 125); 4 semesters of a language, 7 Natural Science, 7 Social Science, and 7 Humanities credits. To finish distribution you need 3 more credits in 2 of the 3 areas. Then later within your major an Uppler Level Writing Requirement. Also you need either 1 QR I class or 2 QR/2 classes these are your math requirements.

Ugh, I really don't want to learn a language.

Unfortunatelty there isnt much of a choice unless you place out during the test @ orientation or end up doing a Bachelor of General Studies which is pretty much a liberal arts degree with slightly different requirements that i can't remember off the top of my head.

What about the BBA program? I ultimately plan to do that provided I get in . Is there a language requirement in that?

There is no language requirement for the BBA program however in order to apply you have to complete Econ 101 and 102, English 124 or 125, Accounting 271, and Math 115. There is approximately a 50% acceptance rate for those who apply. Keep in mind that the pre reqs for the B School BBA program are weeder classes ALL of them except for English. Make sure you have a backup plan in case you don't get into the BBA program.

I know about the prereqs, and I'm assuming I have to take all of them first year since I will apply to Ross after freshman year. However, on the First Year Course Guide, there was no accounting for LSA. On the orientation questionnaire, there was a question asking about what I would like to take in LSA for the first year. I had the option of listing four courses. I found the economics courses but no accounting. Can I still take this course even if it's not a standard LSA first-year course?

Also, I think I can substitute English 124/5 for Great Books. Is that possible?

Thanks.

No you can't take them ALL in your first year because in order to take accounting 271 you MUSt have sophomore standing which is more than 25 credits. Is it possible to subsitute English 124/5 for Great Books if you are in Honors LSA or try to get an override somehow.

On a side note what part of NJ are you from because I'm a fellow New Jerseyan @ UM.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up because I thought in order for me to apply to Ross (which is now after freshman year), I must satisfy all the prereqs first. I'm in honors LSA, so I think I might be taking Great Books instead, if that's recommended.

I'm from northern NJ (Bergen County)

Great Books is reccommended for Honors Students (personally I am not an Honors Student)

I am from Central Jersey (Monmouth County)

Hi, i'm in the same situtuation-i'm going to apply to the bschool after fresh year. I took the AP bc calc test and so i'm pretty sure i got a 5 on it, so that means i'll pass out of math 120 and 121. You said math 115 was required for the bschool, however i plan to take honors calc II, is that okay instead of 115?

I actually can't give you an answer on that but if you call LSA advising @ 734-764-0332 they can.

AP credits do not fufill any of the distribution or other requirements. All they do is count as prerequisite/elective credit towards graduation. So...to the kid with the 5 on the AP calc test..Congrats...welcome to calculus 3. Isn't that a shame.

calc 3 is easier than 1 and 2 at michigan-definitely take it

Oh...i don't doubt.....i'm more unhappy with the was AP bills itself. You get all this ap credit, and it turns out that its all just fluff credit. I' woulda taken some bs math class or none at all if I had known.

You know, maybe I'm a bit of an idealist but I hope that there are at least a few other people out there who actually take classes to learn things.

I'll take classes in political science, liguisics, antropology, sociology and history to learn something.

Frickin' linear algebra. Please.

hahaha, go KB, im with ya there.

the only reason i took calc 3 was because i thought i was going to be a math major, but then i realized I had no idea what was going on. I still got a good grade in the class because the actual math part isn't that hard, but as far as the theory and visualization... My major is Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Bio, but I have a pleathora of other (interesting) classes in the humanities, social sciences, linguistics, etc.

hey nirvana, how is ur major going cause thats what i want to major in too
