I am a first semester freshman and I am a BA Theatre Arts major. I really want to transfer into a BFA program at another school, but I don't have anyone to write a recommendation for me as an actor. I have teachers and mentors who know me as a person and student, but not an actor. How do I get around this?

Do you know someone (does not have to be from current school) who has directed you in a play that can speak about you and your work… or someone who has had you as a student in an acting class (either at your current school or prior to starting at your current school?)

I do know someone, but I don’t feel they know me well enough to write something considering I only did a couple of shows with them.

A couple of shows should be plenty of interaction for a director to talk about you as an actor, how you approach the rehearsal process, what are your strengths, what are you like as a performer.

If they are asking for how you are as an actor that is much more specific than a general personal recommendation.

Another idea is to see if you can work with an acting coach.

I agree with Kat about using the person who directed you in a few shows in the past.

Another idea is that transfer applicants have later application due dates at many schools and if you have a professor in your BA Theater program this semester, that person may be able to write on your behalf.

I also agree with shacherry that if you have an acting coach help you prepare your monologues for auditions, that person would be able to speak to your acting skills.
