I’m a transfer student from SoCal(Non local CC), I have high transferable units GPA (3.86) with 79 units. I was looking at assist.org website and CPP lists a number of “Required Support Courses” for computer science. I’ve complete my IGETC and have most of the required courses done except the Physics sequence.
Are my chances ruined because of this?
If yes should I apply again next year when I have all those completed? By doing this I’ll add another 20+ units to my transfer application, will I hurt my chances then for having too many units?
For competitive majors like CS, anything listed as required - they expect to see on your transfer ap. That’s why it is so important to know your target school and carefully plan your courses at the CC.
With a 3.86, you could easily TAG to Davis, Santa Cruz or Irvine and perhaps make it into UCLA. It would be a shame to burn anther year. Hopefully you applied more broadly.
@NCalRent Thank you for the response, as a matter of fact I have applied to 5 UC schools including a TAG for UCI, but I was hoping to get in to CPP, Since it’s cheaper. Will stacking up more units hurt my chances for next year?(say 100 units)
@allen129 Since you have high GPA, they might throw you an exception (and more likely, more you have completed courses according to igetc or assist.org.
I heard someone getting passed for the very same reason but it’s rare.
@tehjoadsta Right off the cpp.edu website. “A maximum of 70 semester units or 105 quarter units transferred from community colleges may be applied toward the cumulative unit requirement for a Bachelor’s Degree.”
Some of those required support classes may be hard to get. Since you are a transfer I suggest you maybe apply for the 2 year pledge? It’s hard to get the schedule you want at cpp if you don’t have early registration.
its a application that is due after you get accepted. You are required to print out the forms online through the cal poly pomona page and turn it to your adviser(college of_______) by the end of the quarter. It will guarantee you getting all the classes, but you are required to meet the minimum of a C grade. If you get a C- or below, you are then dropped out of the pledge and cannot apply again.
Ok, so hoping this thread will help someone with their questions and provide more clarification. I’m the OP here and as I had explained in the first post of the thread I have all the “required courses” completed except the physics sequence. I got accepted into the program on March 13th. So it is possible to get in without the whole required courses completed. Hopefully this helps
