Requirements for Smeal

What are the requirements to get admitted into Smeal? And how hard or competitive is it? Any SAT, ACT, and/or GPA ranges would greatly help! Thanks.

bump.......!

Does anyone know to this information?

bump (10 char)

It's not clear since they don't publish
separate admissions statistics for each school. Smeal at UP has become quite popular.
If you apply early and do summer session a 3.5 + 1200 might be enough to get you in. If you apply later, both scores may need to go up. It's 2/3 GPA, 1/3 SAT, so if you have a 4.0, you might get away with a lower SAT. We know some really good students who were deferred to a satellite campus - although they applied in Sept and Oct vs August. One of these kids changed major to DUS and got in to UP. Good luck.

I got in w/ a 1350 and 3.8 GPA if it helps. Applied in September I think.

My son had 1270 SATs and a 4.0 average, applied last August and will start next week.

Because Smeal, and business programs in general, have become so poplular and selective, I would look at the SAT stats for getting into PSU in DUS and bump them up by, say, 70-100 points, and also bulk up the gradepoint average as well.

On the positive side, it's competitive to get in but a fairly large class eash year at Smeal. When we visited for FTCAP day and the parents and kids were asking questions, it was pretty clear to me (albeit from a small sample in our group) that this was a pretty motivated type of student. Lots of disucssion about heavy AP credits and excellent grades, etc.

To summarize, although you may not have actual stats, assume getting into Smeal will be materially tougher than for, say, DUS (DIvision of Undergrad Studies).

Interesting info on latest US News Rankings. Not much change from last year although Finance jumped five spots - and the program is now ranked #15 in the US. Pretty good...
