Rescinded?

I am a bit worried about my prospects for getting rescinded from Vanderbilt. My grades were top-notch until second semester of senior year, during which period I received a C in AP Calculus BC and a D in AP English Literature, and a couple other Bs. What do you think is the probability that I’ll get rescinded, and if so would I just have to enroll at another college I was admitted to?

What did you get on the AP tests?

@JustOneDad AP scores are not back yet

I think the D is the main problem, that is a line you don’t usually cross. Did you discuss with your GC? Is there any mitigating circumstance? I think you will have to get ahead of it to inform Vanderbilt so you can get an answer in time to try to make other plans. As far as just enrolling in another college you were admitted to, haven’t you declined them already? I suppose you can ask if they will open a spot for you again but you will have the same issue of having to inform them of your semester grades and the D.

Talk to your GC and see what will be on the final transcript sent to colleges. In our HS it is only the final grade so if you had a bad semester it may be OK if the final grade is a C or better. If the D will show up I agree that you should contact Vandy before they see it on the transcript. A D can be grounds for them to rescind. If you declined the other colleges already (which I’m guessing you did) you can’t just call up and enroll in them. Those schools have you down as a “now” and are likely filled up already. If rescinded, you may need to plan for a gap year or something.

I also suggest you figure out how you got into the mess and be sure not to repeat it when you get to college.

I was under the impression that the final grade is what counts, not the semester grade. Our transcripts only show the final grade.

If your final grade in English is indeed a D, then you and your GC need to contact Vanderbilt.
