I am applying to Columbia ED and a handful of other schools RD, most of which have a space to upload a scientific abstract on their supplements, but I have not been able to figure out how to format and write my abstract for my scientific research. Obviously, I already have an abstract written for my papers, as well as ones that I have submitted to Intel and other competitions, but each competition gave specific directions for length and formatting. I have not, however, been able to find any guidelines for abstracts when submitting them as supplemental materials to colleges. Columbias website says 1-2 pages, but that doesn't really tell me anything! First of all, I've never seen an abstract on a paper or anywhere else that was more than 1 page long. Also, 1-2 pages in what font, size, and formatting?! Most of my abstracts currently are about half a page to almost a full page, depending on formatting, but should the abstract for colleges be longer since they don't want the entire research papers? If anyone could give me some more specific guidelines or an approximate word count and formatting suggestions, it would greatly appreciated!

I’d like to know this too.

Also, should I list the scientific journal from which I often read papers on research related to mine? I am not sure, because obviously I don’t just flip through journal articles and read them like a normal magazine or anything
