Hi CCers,

I am currently doing computational research (programming and analyzing data, but the data is biology-related) at a well-known university. However, I plan on applying to BA/BS MD schools, where medical and biological research is more important. Are there any BA MD students that think that computational research may negatively my admission to these schools? Thanks in advance.

I doubt it would. In my opinion, you’re still taking the initiative in high school to pursue research at a university. That will make your application stand out. Yes, it might have been better to choose research more closely aligned with your school, but to answer your original question, I doubt it would negatively impact your admissions.

By the way, if you’re looking to publish research, I and some other CC members have created a journal, PRYSM, for high school students interested in mathematics or the sciences. We have many positions left to fill (administration, editors, peer reviewers, and web masters) for those interested. Please PM me if you have any questions concerning PRYSM. Oh, and by the way, PRYSM stands for Peer-Reviewed journal for Young Scientists and Mathematicians.
