In your opinion, is doing research between sophomore/junior year too early? I want to contact professors at a local college to see if there's any opportunities for me to pursue research over the summer (and most likely into junior year), but I'm not whether it's frowned down upon or not. I obviously have so much more to learn and so much less knowledge than a current junior/rising senior.

It’s been done before, so certainly do it. You have to start somewhere. Make a resume and send it around. Also, what’s your research field?

I dont think there is anything wrong with it at all! Colleges would love to see early interest in science or your particular subject matter. I started the summer before junior year and it has been loads of fun. But just as an FYI, it will be hard to continue your internship during your jr year since jr year usually has the hardest classes (or at least you should try to take challenging classes your jr year). Hope this helps!

I did research this summer as a rising junior. It was an amazing experience, and I will be back there next summer. Keep in mind, I am taking a research course in school where I gained extensive knowledge before entering the lab.

I’m trying to do research as a rising junior! I think it’s a great idea, and if you can find somewhere to conduct research, you should be so thankful!
Message me if you want more info on how I’m approaching this :D
