Im a sophomore in high school and Ive been looking around for a research internship for a while, especially in the biological sciences. I think you are supposed to email professors at your local universities, but I am just not sure how to go about doing this. Also, is May to late to be asking about a research internship for the summer?
May is exceptionally late, and sophomore in HS is pretty young (esp if you aren’t 16 yet). Talk to your science teacher(s) at school - they will know what sorts of internships are available locally.
My D, now a junior, had research internships at two local universities last summer, so it’s definitely possible. But she started in February. Starting now will be much tougher.
Note that she was 16 at the time, but they required a few weeks in order for the paperwork to go through. That may also affect your start time.
thank you for the feedback. I wont be 16 until the end of summer, so does that really hurt in this process? Also i know May is pretty late, so is there any other summer program i could occupy myself with so as to not waste this summer?
May is very late to be applying to most of the summer programs as well, look into your local museums and see if you can volunteer there. If you are in Northeast area you may have a few options.
