I know that Davidson is located in a relatively small town, and I was wondering what opportunities there are for research. Davidson is a good school for pre-meds from what I've heard, but I was wondering where students do their research. Do they simply talk to the professors there and work in their labs, or are there places off campus that some students work at? Also, do most students do this during the school year or over breaks, etc.?

Thanks a lot.

Bump. I, too, would like to know the answer(s).

As a Freshmen at Davidson I was offered a paid research position for the entire summer.
I was to be researching CD4/CD8 ratio’s in immune compromised animal systems. This research was to be funded through Merck, HHMI, and the NCI (National Cancer Institute-NIH)

I choose to take Physics instead.

If you looking for top of the line research labs in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, Davidson cannot compete with big universities. If you are looking to get into a research lab and get published Davidson has the resources and the faculty willing to hold your hand for the first year or so.

I usually go out to coffee with a teacher 1+ times a week. I have been to 4 teachers houses, and I have 2 teacher’s personal cell phones.

When it comes to Anthro, Poly Sci, and Econ opportunities exist also.

Davidson offers Undergraduate research, were universities seldom get undergrads into the labs until junior or senior year.

Also Davidson is 30min from Charlotte

Students do research in Dana-Watson Life Sciences building. Most research is done on the campus. Usually students will start their research in the summer (so that they can be properly trained) and then continue throughout the following years. Summer research is paid for by various grants and the school.

Great, thanks for the input. Also, do you know how many students start off as premed and how many end up applying to Med school? Is there any weeding out going on? How about grade deflation?

Thanks again.
