Research/Internship at Booth for undergrad

Is it common for undergraduate students interested in business to get a research or internship position in the Booth school of business? Does this typically happen during the school year or over the summer?

I couldn't find any information on this on the UChicago website, so any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It’s not too difficult, if you’re pretty sharp and good at working connections a bit.

During what year do students usually start their research? Is it possible for freshmen to do research at booth? and what does the job usually entail?

Current first year here. I have two (first year) friends that have RA positions at Booth. It didn’t seem that difficult to get them when they explained how they got the position.

I work for a fairly well-known professor at Booth, and I’ll be here over the coming summer. Some professors prefer only summer interns, while others hire people to work all year round. Honestly, it’s not terribly difficult to get a job at Booth, though to secure the best positions you will need to hustle.

(I’m a first year economics intern doing research on crime and education)

Thanks for the responses!

A few more questions: how did you guys get in touch with the professors? Did you just have to email them? Is there a place where you can see the research a professor is currently doing?

Sorry for all the questions – research in economics/business is something that I’m really interested in, so I just wanted to get a “head start” on finding the position that most interests me.

bump…anyone wanna help?

Professors’ research interests can be found on their individual faculty page, which are linked to from their departmental websites. Google around for those.

As to actually getting in touch with professors, emails occasionally work, but to really make an impact it’s best to show up in person and have a conversation with the professor. For finding the best time to do so, their secretaries are your best friend - talk to them!
