Hey there,

I am going to join SUNY Plattsburgh this fall with a Computer Science major. I wanted to know what research/internship opportunities an international student is entitled to. I know most REUs are restricted to US citizens. But I'm really okay with unpaid research as long as they arrange for my living and food.

You will get accurate answers if you contact the Office of Intercultural Affairs or any other office in your college.

It’s quite difficult to have opportunities for research or internship as an international student unless you are exceptionally outstanding. You will more likely get research opportunities in your own college.

I never knew of any REUs for international students. They are specifically for US citizens and permanent residents.

I am going to Illinois Tech and I’ll be searching for such opportunities too. Hopefully, we can find some. But I’m not really looking for anyone to pay for my living and food. It’s unlikely to find any research positions if you wait for someone else to pay for you.
