I am a rising sophomore planning on double majoring in business and STEM and would like to intern at a business or STEM (but preferably STEM) internship at a company or with professors/researchers at universities.
Is it difficult to get internships, and how would I go about getting one?
I live in the Midwest and am close to schools such as Northwestern and UIUC, so my (hopefully not too out of reach) goal is to get a research internship at one of those two universities.
I’ve heard that you need to be extremely advanced and skilled in order to get a good research internship. Is this true? For example, if I wanted to go into something chemistry-related, would taking AP Chemistry (and getting a 5 on the exam) be sufficient enough for an internship?
At the schools that I’ve listed above, is there an application process, or would I have to have personal connections in order to get an internship?
Sorry for saying the word ‘internship’ like 15 times, lol. Also, if there are any other students looking for internships too, feel free to comment questions so that other people can answer them too
