I'm a biology major in an honors program at my school, so I'm expected to do about two years of research and produce an honors thesis at the end. My school isn't very large, so the bio department has fewer professors compared to other schools.

My problem is that I took a class with a professor and didn't do so well in her class...about a C+. I have done better in my other biology classes, but those are mostly environment focused (biodiversity, etc.) However, I really like the content that she is researching... it would be something that I would be interested in.

I really would like to ask her if I could do research with her, but I'm afraid that might not be a good idea since I didn't do as well as I should have in her class. Even if by some chance she said yes, I'm not sure if she would write me a good recommendation at the end of the thesis work because of the class grade.

I've looked up advice online, but I haven't found anything that relates to my situation. Any advice?

In some ways, maybe it would work out well if she said yes and wrote me a LOR, as long as I worked my bum off on thesis... might lessen the blow of the grade.

Thank you!
