Research opportunities for science majors

How easy is it for science majors to obtain research positions on campus and off?

Is most research done during the summer with professors in the science departments?

Does the Career Center help with finding science reasearch internships off campus?

I visited Dickinson in January, and my tour guide said that students can conduct research as early on as freshman year with their professors if that helps.

I’m a current Dickinson student and I’m a neuroscience major. I was actually able to complete research while studying abroad on a Dickinson program last semester. However, there is also the option to do an independent research project at Dickinson with the advising of a professor, or to help a professor with his/her research. Research is conducted during the year and also during the summer, depending on the research project and the availability of the professor and student. As far as off campus research options, the Career Center is a great resource for students to find opportunities off campus. For my major specifically the head of the department sent out an e-mail last semester to all the neuroscience majors with link to a huge array of different summer research opportunities.

One of the perks of a college like Dickinson is the opportunity for undergrads to do research and co-author papers with professors. My D did research during the year and summers. She presented at poster sessions and published with her prof. She had a lot to put on her resume after graduation.
