wrathofgod, wait till you get into RSI first, then worry about your placement.

frozen-tears? lol no one refers me by my 1st name unless they know me in real life. I was just surprised. anyway, put whatever it is that you think will help you.

Ah. Sorry about that. I usually refer to people by their first names online if I know it. Compromise -- I know Allen C. (the guy who worked with mtDNA last summer?) in real life. However, I sent him something like a 2 page list of questions about RSI apps via email and he'll probably never talk to me again, lol.

For the EC questions, I have them organized in a table at the moment (like on college apps). Should they be in paragraphs?

mine where in ugly paragraphs, but there is no "should". It really doesn't matter! Paragraphs let me explain more what I did and how much I was involved. The value of your ECs comes off more when you have area to write about them. But whatever works is fine :-)

hey, quick question. if we send some extra apps that aren't specifically by teachers from our schools, should we follow the format of the recs in the application?

I'm wondering same thing as tetrahedr0n.
btw, if you are the same tetrahedr0n from AoPS, I don't see how you won't get into RSI considering you get like 144 on mock AMC.

tetra..just have them write a letter of rec that has the pts that they asked in the letter of rec, not necessary the same format.

hannah came from TX and she won S/W Regional Finalist as a jr for graph theory :) so I dunno..make your own judgment. I think...3 rickoids came from TX?...2?

Well, I didn't mean put ur mock amc score lol. I'm just saying if you can get 144 on mock amc, even though it was easier than a real one, you must get pretty high on the real one. Also, I bet you got like 14 on AIME.

I'm vinny919 on aops. I usually post in pre-olympiad/intermediate but I don't post all that much. I mostly read older posts, do the problems on my own, and then see what people have said. Are you doing usamts this year? How's it going?

ive seen your posts. i am doing usamts. round 1 was good for me, round 2 was a train wreck, and round 3 i havent started yet, haha. probably should soon. hows it for you?

Hey- earlier in the thread people were talking about putting down technical skills like lab tests and all sorts of other things on the app. I didn't see the section for this- I thought under technical skills it was just the ones listed with the boxes to check off, like the computer programming skills and all that. Do they really want you to list all the lab techniques you know how to do? Also, I am self-studying AP Biology and I was wondering if I should put it on the app since its self-study and not a real class (i.e. could I mention in one of the essays that I'm self-studying it?) Finally, is a 3 on the AIME worth putting on the app? Thanks for all the help!

Oh one other thing...if I do community service work that is basically teaching young kids at a community center about science (just simple chemistry stuff and weird things that kids like, you know) would this be ok to put on the app like in the other ec's section? Would it help at all?
