Does anyone know how many RSI alum were just named Intel STS finalists?

Perhaps there weren't any???

OF COURSE there were RSI alumni named finalists. In fact, four amazing ones were. ;)

I know of four Siemens Regional Finalists who made Intel Finalist -- there may be more. Haven't done a list-to-list comparision. ;)

Good luck to everyone applying to RSI!

4 students from 2007 RSI made Intel Finalist.

I Agree, countingdown! =]
Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone think they have a chance, or are they like me and think that it's more likely they'll win the lottery?

haha after reading some of these posts, i'm definitely thinking i'll have to be really lucky to get accepted. hopefully they liked my essays, cause i sure don't have as great credentials as some of the kids here...

haha lottery for me here.
hopefully the application gets in on time, I think I will overnight it on Monday.

Sorry for the double post, but do you think it is frowned upon to have the same field for both choices (biology)?

I would probably put molecular and systems interactions for my subfields...

Could someone list the names of the RSI finalists - it would be interesting to read their bios. Thanks!

lol RSI is wayy awesome, i wish i had RSI-worthy research
good luck everyone

Does anyone know how reliable USPS is? Their website says first class mail is 3 days but can anyone confirm this?

i REALLY dont wanna pay 80 bucks for fedex overnight.

USPS should be pretty good - don't have any personal experiences with first class though.
I saw USPS overnight is only $16. Why is fedex so expensive?

i'm really interested in the rsi summer program, just wondering if anyone here knows how hard it is to get accepted into it?

I think it is fairly common to list two subfields in a field you're really interested in. I know that mathematics students do this frequently.

Previous posts have talked about the importance of discussing your choices thoroughly, so a good barometer might be whether you can talk about your subfields without too much overlap. If you can, you're probably in good shape.

Thanks a lot privatecitizen!

@ anti-quark: I think everyone on this thread and past RSI threads will agree that this program is extremely selective and probably harder than getting into HYPS et al. for college.

Does anyone know if supplemental materials are allowed?

I've seen people post about putting supplemental materials in their app (and gotten in), while others have said that the committee doesnt like extra paperwork.

I'm in the same boat as you, so I can't give you a definitive answer - maybe some past Rickoid would care to answer?

A good rule of thumb is to send extra stuff only when it gives the selection committee information or a perspective that isn't adequately covered in the normal application. Spamming them with redundant junk definitely leaves a bad impression, but sometimes a one-size-fits-all application can't anticipate every aspect of your life.

Can you be more specific about what you want to send?

hey guys don't send it overnight.
I talked to a rickoid, and he told me about how he wrote his whole app. two days before it was due. he lives in CA!!!!! so you can send it normally. don't worry!

so does that mean we have two fields and two subfields, or two subfields for one field?
