Research Science Institute ( RSI ) 2008

Yeah, I just did some research about it, and seeing as that I don't live in the greater Boston area, I don't think I'd be able to apply. I wish something of this nature were available in my area. :)

is it necessary/the usual thing to have taken SAT IIs before RSI?

and will they get your junior year PSAT score in time? I took it in 8th grade, and got a fine score, but not an RSI-worthy one, but I took it this year and definitely scored a lot better.

burnitblue, if I remember correctly, you self-report your scores. I don't think you have to send an official score report. There should be no problem with getting your PSAT score before the deadline.

And I don't think you need to have taken SAT II's.

I plan to apply to RSI 2008 and I was wondering if anyone knows how research projects are assigned? I understand they ask (at least in past applications) about your top two fields of interest, but is there any way to request or arrange a particular research project? If so, how and when could you do this? Thanks!

Unless you are a math person (where you might get the choice of picking your own problem to work on), you really can't "arrange" a particular research project. They will match you to a lab/mentor the best that they can, and it will be cool. Don't let the fact that you more than likely won't be working on that something specific that you've been researching for the past few years turn you off (if that is the case for you). Look at RSI as a chance to develop a new skill set and to expose yourself to new/awesome people and ideas.

Thanks for the fast response . What you wrote makes a lot of sense - now "all" I have to do is get accepted!

It's November.

Dang RSI is crazy. There is no way a person like me can get in. I get good grades and stuff and know and love science and math, but dang some of those kids are just plain crazy.

shravas, u're right. it's november. BUT I SEE NO APPLICATION...=((

A-Card, I feel the same way, but I'm applying anyway. I'd really like to be involved in this great program! I'm quite anxious for the application to come out.

oh shiz...i just realized something...

am i not allowed to apply to RSI if i'm a U.S. permanent resident?

aaaaah...please no...
my country of citizenship is new zealand.

oh crap. now i'm freaking out

Same here i am still gonna apply cos this program is really cool.

If you're a citizen of another country, you apply through that country's selection process. The program is international.

There are usually only a few countries that participate each year.
This is from the RSI site at http://www.cee.org/rsi/international.shtml:
1. Please confirm that your country is participating in the program by contacting Ms.Maite Ballestero, Vice President, Programs. CEE will put you in contact with the appropriate representative within your country if applicable, and give you instructions on where to mail your application materials.

dang it...i got an email back saying u.s. permanent residents can't apply and that my country of citizenship (new zealand) doesn't participate in the program. nooooooooooooooooo =((((

Wait what? i am a citizen of india, but have a green card i can apply right? Its us citizen or permanent resident right?

i don't know...here's the email i sent:

Hi,
I am interested in applying for RSI 2008; however, i am a permanent resident of the United States, not a citizen. My country of citizenship is New Zealand. Does that make me ineligible for RSI? I hope not! Please let me know...
Thanks in advance for your time.

and here's the reply i got:

At the present time we do not have sponsors from New Zealand.

We wish you the best of luck with your future plans.
