@MIT: compile error...you forgot to import java.util.Random... :P

when i get my letter, i'm going to put it on the table, get a die, and then roll it right next to the letter, and pray it's a 1 or 2. then tear that letter open!!!

Haha, I just survived the worst nightmare of an RSI applicant!

That is to say, my mailed application never got through -- I just got it back from the post office! Weird, huh?

I guess that electronic copy was a bad idea.

Anyway, that means...if you haven't gotten that postcard back... be afraid. :P

Correction: *good idea

I just spoke w/ Bowman (the guy we email to or w/e). My problems were: my chem teacher erroneously wrote that I'm a senior in my req, and whether/how to report going to sci bowl nationals. He said not to worry about the former, and that it can't hurt to mention the latter, and to use snail mail.

(He also mentioned that they are already reading our folders)

Shravas,
Not everyone posts their RSI results, one way or the other. It can be identifying info.

Good luck to everyone who applied this year!

sigh*... MITES is down... cuz I'm not permanent resident of US...

all up on RSI now... dang it... i feel I'm so freaking stupid compared to u guys... and u aren't by far the smartest yet...

...

at least RSI allows some time to get the PR... as long as u r PR when u go to RSI, you'll be fine... but still, i think not being PR will be a disadvantage...

man...

Eugenius, please accept my condolences.

MITdude, i'm in the same situation. My PSAT scores are below the CC average of 238 [or w/e they are hahaa], and i am in no way affiliated with USAMO, Siemens, etc.

I just hope that my nerdy gpa + leadership will help!

ditto ditto...

Eugenius... could you perhaps contact the DoDea office and mail them ur returned package? It's an honest effort and it could have surprising results :)

hey,
so I am new to this message board but i did apply to RSI. It seems like all of you have REALLY been inspired in the fields of science and engineering. If you don't mind how did you guys get so involved an idols or events that inspired you all?

Don't worry about me, guys... I sent the app. in electronically, so they definitely received it. DoDEA, for whatever reason, prefers electronic applications to snail mail anyway.

Still, it's disheartening that my paper copy came back.

Rakr12, Chuck Norris is my idol. I want to genetically engineer a being that can pwn him at taekwando.

MathCounts inspired me to do math from 7th grade on.

Math Olympiads starting in elementary school

wow...

me = eh...liked the stuff i've been good at... till now... yeah...

.> CAI inspired me on some astronomy...

MathCounts most definitely sparked my interest in math in middle school. Do a lot of you compete in Math Olympiads and such now or do you focus more in the research or both? Pardon my curiosity, you all just seem so amazing.

Both, slightly leaning to math comps...AMC 12B tomorrow!

If it weren't for my buttload of AP classes, I could have actually studied for it, meh

I actually have not done any research, except trying to read research papers, which doesn't really count as research. So, uh, I lean a lot towards Olympiads.

Yeah, AMC 12B tomorrow morning :)
I don't believe in studying to tests or to contests. I believe in refreshing before the exam, but to specifically prepare seems artificial to me. Go with the flow :) But yeah-- I'm kind of nervous for the AMC.

I guess I was always a math science girl. I mean... I loved doing the math problems my parents told me about when I was little, and I would beg them to give me more (along with asking many many questions). Then through most of middle school, I tried to be exactly what was not stereotypical of me- I focused on writing, politics, boys, makeup, philosophy. Through eighth grade and the beginning of high school, I became much more involved in math and science again, and after going to camp last year... I'm pretty sure I like math. :)

Yay long rant.

Ooooo, I forgot to add, my school only offers the math olympiad and no others. AND I only started research last year, though I'm pretty much hooked.

Yeah I'm kind of nervous too. I'm taking my AMC at a university, so it'll be in the afternoon.

My idea of preparation is just doing old problems, AoPS 1 and 2, etc.

Let's see how many math acronyms I know (sorry, I just felt the urge to do this):
AoPS 1
AoPS 2
AoPS
WOOT
USAMTS
AMC
AIME
USAMO
IMO
MOP
TST
USAMTS
MC
ARML
PSS
ACoPS

Here's something to look at, from Digg
