on the rsi website, it stated that there were about 980 US applicants last year and 51 were accepted.
i agree with raneff. i think the people who apply for the RSI has at least something going for them whether it be grades, scores, interest/passion, research, etc. i have also heard from previous applicants that #2 was what made or broke the application

oops, my bad! i chose a number off the top of my head.

woww he DOES have a facebook! and only a few friends. someone should friend him and see if it gets them into RSI.

omg is the results out yet?? im waiting lol

doesn't number 3 (achievements and whatnot) weigh pretty heavily too?

wow 5% admit rate. RSI sounds like a guarantee for any college...

Yeah, but since we're all roughly the same score/achievement wise, its #2 where we all differ

Why isn't there a RSI applicant group on Facebook?

Yeah I think RSI is a guarantee for any Ivy League, I don't think anyone has been rejected from an Ivy League with RSI.

Just for Fun: http://www.popsci.com/entertainment-gaming/article/2008-03/super-mario-multiverse

Also did anyone read the last xkcd?

yeah, but it´s the age old question, which came first, the chicken or the egg?

i honestly think the egg. however, the rest of my family believes the chicken did.

please settle this argument between my friend and i:

is there still time to fax supplements to cee?

thanks! =]

"we're all roughly the same score/achievement wise"

This is not true at all. Some people have no research experience whereas some have won national and state level awards in math and science. Also, on the RSI website it says that students will be selected based on merit, not on their research ideas. In my opinion basing selection on question 2 seems pretty stupid and subjective, anyone can go onto google and come up with a n interesting research idea. Credentials, however, provide a true objective measurement of an applicants qualifications for the program

A lot of people from RSI get rejected from Harvard, so it's not really a guarantee for getting into ANY college.

We could debate the relative weights of different portions of the application until we're all blue in our figurative faces (being online and all), but there won't be any to prove who is right unless one of us turns out to be working for CEE personnel and here under an assumed identity. Yes, merit matters. Yes, the essays matter. To what extent are they important in regard to each other? Endlessly debatable.

On that note, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the teacher recommendations as an area of significant importance. Surely that objective viewpoint has at least as much weight as the essays do.

So the rooster comes first.

hi,

i sent cliff (bigcheese at RSI) an update on a website i made that didnt make it into the application. he visited my site from arlington (18 miles from mclean, RSI HQ... probably the DSL/cable hub) the exact same day he replied to my email. he said he'd send the link to the readers for my state, but i only had one hit from virginia.

are the RSI state readers located in mclean, virginia, or are they located elsewhere?

thanks

If you can solve Cliff's math problem, you may have a shot at RSI:

One more thing, I know RSI is prestigious, but how are we make RSI people more attractive?

correction, I mean: how CAN we make RSI people more attractive?

oh wow...

um plastic surgery?

they're not that bad looking! it must be the lighting!

Haha VP- or it could be RSI's camera

I think RSI should really try to get a more diverse group of kids. Looking at the photos it seems like there are at least 75% asians. I think RSI would be a more rewarding and enriching experience if they were able to incorporate people from all backgrounds- not just math genius asians. Plus it would be a little easier on the eyes.

heyyy! asians can be cute too :)
