Research Science Institute ( RSI ) 2008

Hi, do any of you know whether CEE only sends letters to those who get into RSI? Or do they also mail rejection letters in the next week? Thanks!

they mail everyone

Thank you.

i know it's way too late to send in supplements, but my friend sent in her March SAT scores. i hope it helps!

oh gosh i'm getting giddy too...

hey stargirl when did you talk to them?

so close...yet so far

VPof09: I spoke with them on the 20th

Okay, I am very worried now. Were we supposed to submit 2 copies of our application. I was reading the RSI 2006 forum and someone mentioned this!!!

boolean noWorries;
I just reread the entire app and the only new thing I noticed was a typo on their part
assert ("th"!="the");
assert noWorries;
The assertions pass. Seriously though, I think that is an old requirement that has since changed. I went through the app and cntrl+f'd for "two" and "copies," but found nothing indicating that we need to have sent duplicate of anything.

okay i think it was just for RSI 2006.

whew!!!

Whoa, stargirl90, I guess they really mean "week of March 31."

I'm sooo looking forward to this, but man... Even some of the resumes here are blowing my mind. I've done no science research; the only things going for me are my grades, and I know I'm not alone in that.

I'll try to send my "passion for science" through the airwaves and into the RSI admissions folks.

zzz-zz-grrrr--r passion zzrgrr science zzZ

About how many people apply to RSI per year?

i'm guessing around 1500?

really, i thought it was more like 1000

i think its a bit less even than 1000

I think it's like around 950 or 1000 US applicants.

Out of curiosity, how do you know that?

omg my anticipation index is so high i don't think i'll be able to concentrate for the next week until letters come...

=97ish

i really hope they send letters out next week so we don't have to suffer through ANOTHER weekend...

echoing thestralnerd's question: how DOES everyone know the total number of applicants?

but lets assume, for calculation purposes, that there are exactly 1000 US applicants this year. after throwing out incomplete applications, there's probably about 900 left. then, after reviewing stats and throwing out people who don't have at least decent stats/requirements (low sat, low gpa, weak course load, no previous science/math classes), i'm willing to bet only 500-600 legitimate applicants remain. from there, it will depend on essays, recs, etc; so if rsi accepts exactly 50 US applicants, then all of us here who are US applicants should have about an 8.33% to 10% chance of getting in.

hmm... what are you talking about? the only people who are going to have enough to say about in the RSI application are people with previous science/math classes, and pretty much anyone motivated to sign up has them...
i think it'll all come down to how thorough applicants were on question #2. if they see something innovative there (i.e. some idea, research hypothesis or strange field of study that CEE thinks the kid will do well with and make the organization seem outstanding with) then they'll probably admit the kid. let me remind everyone that since the program is free to many students, they're looking for ideas that CEE thinks will be very profitable in the real world so that 1) they can get bigger donations or 2) so that later on, CEE can get a cut of the profit [if the student is required to either list the mentor as a co-inventor/co-researcher and/or sign off on the intellectual property rights]. this is probably the case here

Did anyone notice that Cliff Bowman has a Facebook?
