when giving a teacher a rec, should I give him all my awards that ive won (like a brag sheet?-one of my friends told me to do this)
Brag sheet?... Yeah give the teachers one maybe not all the awards, but the major ones (I'd say anything that is a state contest, and some significant school ones)

i think it really depends on your essays, you recs, and the fepth of your science knowledge.
Yep

I am finishing my application for RSI 2009. Do I put Question #s on the 3 page or show it as one essay for all the 7 questions.

Thanks for respone.

PSAT 222 (72-77-73)
SAT II B780-Ph800-M800
NO research exp
Science league/physics League/Robotics member
Girls Scout Gold Award Project
Varsity Tennis champ
FBLA National Award winner computer event

Definitely put the question numbers on the three pages marking your answers.

I'm still confused on the question that asks for "one or two interesting questions".
What exactly are we supposed to write?
I can't imagine it being "I like the Monty Hall Problem because it seems interesting to me since I've always been fascinated with probability and math"

^Something longer than that of course, any other math questions that interest you? Write a lot on that, maybe include some preliminary thoughts, any idea helps, I wrote like 7-10 lines for each one (11pt, ~0.25in left and right margins)

For #5, do I just check off the list on the table on the bottom of the page? Also, is it talking about the courses I am taking this year only, or the courses that I have taken/will take in high school? Last question- for the technical skills, if I am not proficient in any, should I just check off "beginner" for all? Or leave it blank? Thanks!!

oh yea and for no 4 (where u list ur extracirriculars other than sciencey stuff), did u guys just list them or explain them in detail??/ and yay, my essays are becoming long!

Any chance they can accept more domestic applicants this year?
Oh, and has anybody gotten in from California? And if so, I'm from CA, but with nothing extraordinary (ISEF and publishing and USAMO), but a relatively solid math/science profile. Can I get in?
Honestly, if only like 1 person from CA gets in, no use applying. :(

can you send a research paper as part of your application?

they accepted 100 domestic applicants one year in 2004 b/c it was held at two places MIT and Caltech, however Cliff said the quality of mentorships declined as there were more people at RSI. So I don't think they'll accept more domestic applicants. As for CA, there were 5 people from CA last year.

Yeah you check off those boxes in that question. They refer to all years (taken and will take). Well if you've heard of the technical skill and done some work using it, I would check beginner. I think this is to inform a mentor what your technical skills are. Honestly though, if you're doing math, Mathematica is sufficient enough. I didn't use anything else except that during my mentorship. It was all either pen/chalkboard or Mathematica.

I'm sure you could, just attach it at the end. Also maybe you could allude to the paper attached in one of your essays. Maybe #3?

hey so i have a question.
is there absolutely no point in me applying to rsi with a 210 psat score, no lab exp?
i have good grades in math and science, did accelerated math stuff, and good sat ii and ap scores but im expecting everyone whos applying to have those... nothing about me stands out.... so yeah, is there no point??

and would i be able to leave out my psat score and send my sat score from 8th grade?? i really think i screwed up horribly on that psat since my 8th grade sat score (2170) was better....... but then again my psat math (75) was better than my 8th grade math (730)... so i dont know.

HELP GUYSSS!!!!!! =)

oh yea at gblob. i fell we're bombarding u with too many questions. anyway, um when u said that he mentors review our apps, do u mean before the admissions letter sare sents out or after?

and also at gblob or some person who got into rsi: what's the self nomination thing that the app talks about (along with the essays)?????

and for PSAT scores, do we juts send CEE a copy of the score report that our high schools handed out? (with the no. of wrong answers and stuff? and where to improve in?)

Not really sure about this one, I really don't know much about the admissions process.

Nothing really, just write positively about yourself, show your best side, etc. I didn't even notice that last year, although it was on the app, don't worry about it.

I can't remember exactly what I did last year, but I'm pretty sure I just copied the top half which shows the scores and stuff.

wait so i just got my dec sat back on internet but the paper report wont be coming in mail until after rsi applications are due.

do i just print out the internet score? will they accept that?

*btw i love whoever up there said soething like "i have no big awards (only usamo and publishing and isef)...lol just to tell that person, as long as you have 210+ psat/sat and 3.8+ gpa, you are definetly in at RSI

^I'm sure printing out the internet score is fine, they're not as strict as colleges regarding score reports.

so basically there's no need to write a self nomination essay??

HiPeople: you may've misunderstood...I meant I have none of that
Anyone out there: if you've got perfect SAT scores and good research (on the verge of publishing, just not yet) and 236 PSATs, are you in good shape?
Lastly, please name the best alternative to RSI (besides SSP)

The essays you have written are the self nominations.

If you still want to do research, you can always go to your local university and ask a professor if you could do research with him or her. I was planning on doing this if I didn't get in. My backup plan was to either take more college classes or do research with a prof. at my local university. I didn't apply to any other summer program except for RSI.

ahh dashboard, i read your stats, you are in
i did misinterpret your other post, but looking at what you do have, they are far better than most rsi qualifiers i knew (only knew 2 they were worse than you)
