Would any of the professors at CMU be willing to take on an incoming student? I've had research experience, with mentors at Fermilab and Cornell University in physics and biochemistry, and am really just looking for something to do this summer. My mentor at Fermi offered to take me on for the summer, but if it's possible for me to get a head start at research at CMU that would be amazing.

Or i could just scrounge around for an actual paying job here :)

Can anyone give me some advice as to good professors to contact? ones who are willing to take underclassmen on for the summer, or are really good with students who know nothing about their area of focus, seeing as I'd pretty much be starting cold. I'd work in any field, I'm MCS undecided :) It doesn't really have to be science either- something in humanities would be a nice change of pace...

Can't recommend a professor but I do know a lot of kids from the Pittsburgh area that researched the summer before freshman year. They pay you pretty well I hear...
