Research?

Hello, I'm a member who's been lurking here for information over the last couple of months lol, and I am a senior is HS. I understand that there are many pre-meds who never end up applying to medical school, but I don't think I'll be one of them.

That said, I always see people saying you should have a good amount of research, volunteering, ect. for you application (but pick something you enjoy, not just for med school right? I think I've done a good amount figuring out the basics :D) but my question is, is there a specific subject of research you should be conducting? For example, is it only research with a biology professor? Just trying to figure out what specifically is acceptable to count under that. Thanks in advance!

You can do research in just about any science or public health field. The real purpose of research is to demonstrate that you understand the scientific process.

One of my kiddos does research in cognitive and molecular neuroscience; the other (currently a MS2) did medium energy beam physics. I’ve also know a successful applicant who did research in climate change using peat bog soil coring and another who developed mathematical models of cell growth.

Okay thanks for clearing that up!
