Would it be beneficial for me to email some professors this summer to try to set up some research opportunities with them this fall? I'm an incoming freshman.

Sure, you’d definitely be ahead of everyone else.

Wow…I hadn’t even considered doing that. Do most people do this, or is it still relatively easy to get in on research if I want to hold off first semester to ease into my classwork? I don’t even think I’d know enough to be of any help in research first semester.

Sounds to me like it would be beneficial if you feel you’re ready to start research in the fall - it can’t hurt, and it will probably help get you some research right away. Good luck!

That’s my plan, but I already have research experience since I am a transfer.
