research

what category in the extracurricular activity section would research at a university be considered as? (for ex. academics, other, or science/math)

also if research is a school course ( say you take it from 9th-12th) but you only start researching in a university lab from the summer of your 10th grade year...would you only check off the boxes 11 and 12 or can you check off all 4 boxes since you have been involved with research even outside of school.

thanks.

bump anyone know???

I think (someone can jump in to correct me here) you could elect whether to separate your two research experiences into different “activities,” or combine them depending on what you want to focus on in your common app. So if you already have 6 solid other activities, combine your research experiences and make it seem like a more long-term, involved commitment; if you’re trying to expand on each experience in a different way (or are grappling for activities to list), put them separately. Also, I would assume “Other” is the safest option, but I could be wrong.
