residence hall

Does anyone have an opinion as to which residence hall to choose as a freshman?

From what I've been told, the majority of freshman are assigned to Southwest. That's probably where you'd want to be anyways to get that whole everyone's beginning college experience. If I go, I'd like to live in Central, but they don't assign too many freshman into Central from what I've heard. It really depends on your personality I suppose, but Southwest is most likely where you'll be regardless.

Most freshman go to Southwest, that's true.

Northeast is studious.

Orchard Hill even more so.

Go to Youtube and look for the unofficial UMass tour...the one done by a few students as a project. It explains a lot ;)

southwest is known for its "lively" social scene. aka...its a fun place with lots of kids who like to party. alot of freshman are put here, even if you request another area. southwest has the best dining common on campus (berkshire)

central is the "hippie" dorms...there are only two freshman buildings (van meter and butterfield), so its pretty hard to get in there for your first year. i requested central but got southwest, as did alot of people i know.

orchard hill is where the commonwealth students live, and is typically known as being pretty quiet. northeast is known for being quiet too, and it also houses alot of asian students.
