<p>As a non-citizen, he has to provide a letter explaining his plans to become a citizen. Does anyone know how detailed this letter needs to be ?</p>
<p>Essentially, he's lived in the USA for 9 years and had a Green Card since 2006. The 5 year qualification period expires in Dec 2011, at which point we will start the application process.</p>
<p>How much more information is required?</p>
<p>My son was in the same position last year and he just sent a short letter which contained exactly everything you just mentioned and he also enclosed a photocopy of his permanent residence card. He eventually won the scholarship and is now a citizen. Congrats to your son and good luck!</p>

<p>Do I have to sign the letter physically? As in, print out the letter, sign it, and then scan it?
Or can I just send the letter with an electronic signature?</p>
