*** Resident purpose for tuition in UC ***

I have no idea since your FAFSA will be late but I do know that since it is late, you won’t get priority funding if your FAFSA is approved. It really depends on the school and your parent’s income.

@IcedEspresso:

Thanks for your advice,
I will call FAFSA tomorrow morning

@IcedEspresso:

How do you get these information? Do you or your friend have same situation?
If it is from a website, Can you give me a link?
Thanks a lot~~~

i hope that what lawlking and others are posting is true in your case. this is an international student with recently immigrating parents. i am sure that if the parents were not pending with their passports for example, it would be fine, but they are all in the green card stage and you can bet that this will complicate things? anyway, i really hope it is possible for you to get reduced tuition. from what i can gather the laws however complex will want kids who have had parents paying california property and other taxes to get low tuition. good luck and keep us posted.

if i am not mistaken kids need social security numbers before they can file their fafsa? i am not positive, but you can definitely check that out on their website. if your green card is new or pending, i have no idea if they issue ss numbers that early. such a drag, i know. maybe the Dream Act can help pay some costs too?

dream act:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act

i would contact the dream act and they will be experts in this area. good luck dude! you may be able to receive some aid if you have an ARN number though.

Sent an email and got an reply :

We do not make pre-determinations of residency. Residency is based on the facts presented by the student, so until the facts are presented on the E-SLR and any subsequent documentation requested by the residence deputy is provided, we cannot make a determination. We encourage you to submit the Statement of Intention to Register (SIR) and Statement of Legal Residence (E-SLR) as soon as possible to ensure a more timely response regarding your Fall 2012 determination.

Please note that as we get closer to the SIR deadline our turnaround time gets longer. Once the SLR is submitted, you may be hearing from the residence deputy within 5-10 business days.

Does anyone have a source to support my case?
Really need help for that.
I’m going to be crazy right now.
Why the UC do not do anything before submit the SIR~~~!!!
Anyone can help me?

I am also in a similar situation.

Currently I am an international student (F1 Visa). However, I have been living in California for over 15 years and my parents have been paying CA taxes for over 10 years. My “permanent address” is also in California. Also I have a Social Security Number. Oh, and I have a California High School Proficiency Exam certificate (I didn’t graduate on stage).

In short, my whole family, including myself, has been living in California for a long time. I had to become an international student because unlike my brothers I was not born in the US (I am a South Korea citizen) and therefore needed a legal way to stay here.

On MyUCLA I am listed as a permanent resident. I really hope I will be allowed to pay just resident’s tuition and not be charged as an international student. :/
