We toured it recently and it seemed really great but they said there are twice as many men as women in RC. However the East Quad dorm is 50/50. Do guys get a chance to meet enough other guys? I’m interested in playing chess and soccer as well as doing music. I get along with girls of course but want to make sure a get a nice group of guy friends at school.
You can’t play chess with females?
Your title says 2 to 1 ratio of female to men, then your OP says twice as many men. I think you mean twice as many females.
My daughter went to a school with 75% men, 25% women. She had no trouble with it except for group projects where she was always the only woman on the team and then either 2-3 men. She didn’t feel they respected her time or opinions.
Sorry, yes, of course you can play chess with women. Just highlighting some interests The ratio is 2:1 women to men we were told. Just wondering what that’s like for guys.
You will take many, if not most, of your classes outside of RC so the ratio doesn’t make any difference. But having visited the RC last spring, there was not a discernible gender imbalance. And you can certainly meet students from other dorms.
The university as a whole is around 50/50 for undergrads. Many students who are not in the RC take RC classes. You probably wouldn’t notice much.
In theory this is there but my son couldn’t find it like they were not there and didn’t email back information. https://maizepages.umich.edu/organization/MichiganChessClub
There is also a chess meet up in Ann Arbor that you can look up.
My son was a tournament player so wanted to play at that level or around there.

My son plays flag football, softball. Great fun and great way to meet people. Just don’t take it to seriously.
