Residential/Commons?

Hello. I'm one of the accepted students! I was wondering where and when do I apply for the Commons? Or do they pick a Commons and a roommate for me when I get there?

Thanks!

(Also, not many posts are here about Middlebury. I guess everyone's busy with their real lives ;D)

Me too! I wanna know about the Commons, I mean what if my roommate is a smoker/drug addict/alcoholic/rapist/psychopath/gun murderer/terrorist. What if . . .

But nvm, to keep it short, how do they pick my roommates and to any Middlebury student and alumni: how well was the match for u?

As for commons, they are normally assigned by the Freshman seminar you take. I believe you rank select 5 - and they try to give you your first choice. The goal is to get students with similar interests to collaborate inside and outside of the classroom.
As for roommates, you will receive a roommate questionnaire on which you indicate preferences like smoking, music, hours etc – As I recall it was not very long or detailed, my student started at Midd knowing no one, and has very close friends from his floor (and from around the country/world)

Exactly as described. My S landed in a suite and is still best friends with a lot of those guys, including his first roommate. Not sure how they decide which courses are associated with which commons, but honestly, it all seems to work out. Congrats to you both! It’s such a fantastic school.

The three main features of the roommate form are smoking, messiness tolerance/neatness, and bedtime. Don’t lie hoping you’ll change your ways…There are also designated substance free areas.
