Restaurant recommendations for a grad student.

My nephew is starting at the business school this fall. I am hoping that the students and parents here can come up with a couple of restaurant recommendations so that I can give him a gift certificate to a local place that covers going out to dinner with his fiancé. He is in his mid-twenties and will be moving to the Squirrel Hill area.

Thanks in advance. I have become known as the aunt who steps up with thoughtful gifts so I hope that you can help me out. My reputation is on the line. ;-)

Arrived in Pittsburgh on Mother’s Day to pick up DS at end of spring semester. We ate at Meat and Potatoes in the downtown area. Delicious!

Meat and Potatoes is amazing, and if you’re willing to spend ~$30 on their steak, you should go for it.
In addition to that Squirrel Hill has Chaya, Everyday Noodles and Silk Elephant. These are about it for fancy ones in Squirrel Hill.
If they’re willing to travel, look into Kaya (great place to take someone who’s visiting), Point Burgge Cafe and Park Bruge Cafes are AMAZING (their mussels!) . These 3 are also great for Sunday brunches.

I would recommend a gift certificate to the Big Burrito Group. Despite its name, it covers a variety of unique and upscale restaurants in Pittsburgh like Soba, Umi, and Eleven.

Thank you, everyone!
