Just got the news that we can add:

Gingerdaisys - Fencing (W), REA - Stanford

You can add me to the list, too! Men’s Sabre fencing, REA to Stanford

Thanks to everyone on this forum (especially you, sherpa) for the guidance and direction that have brought me this far. Perhaps cliched, I know, but I sincerely could not have done it without the advice and wisdom of the members of this forum. I’ll be sure to contribute my own experiences for others in the future, just like you all have done for me. Thanks again!!

Thank you so much to varska, fishymom, Old Scarecrow, Riverrunner, FogFog, 3xboys, OldBatsieDoc, mayhew, beenthere2 and pianoforte308. Your wisdom and advice has been incredibly helpful over the past several months.

Congratulations to all! It makes me so happy to see all of these wonderful outcomes :)

My DD12 received a likely letter in October and was accepted ED on Friday to Dartmouth College- Women’s Soccer. Did not want to jinx anything by posting earlier :)

@jhtcrew, I am a lightweight rower recruit to Columbia but my best friend is being recruited there for heavyweight rowing with a 3.80 GPA, 2200 SAT, and 6:29 2k weighing 170 lbs. Regarding his academics, the coach said he was overall a solid but sort of average recruit; meaning his academics were good but not great and his 2k is good but not great.
Hope that helps!

^GS, a H/W rower, was about 10 seconds faster on erg and had 100 points higher SATs.

1.) This thread has been around for just over a month. It’s had only 52 posts but over 10,000 views! Where is everyone coming from?

2.) The results are skewed toward a few of the Ivies and Stanford. Where are athletes with Likely Letters from Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Brown? Are they afraid to post before hearing officially through through the SCEA/ED process for fear that they’ll jinx it? Are there no recruited athlete out there from other schools? I know we will hear more from the NESCAC when their EDs are announced.

OldS, I don’t think it’s fear of the jin. It may be that this feels too good to be true. I know at our house we did not publicly declare plans until after admission, and for the schools you mention, that date hasn’t come yet.

agree with riverrunner - until letter comes, who knows? son #1 was recruit for columbia 2014. had LL and then did get admit. waiting for admit for son #2 any day now, had LL in Oct and admissions officer told him he could celebrate but we want the letter!

With respect to erg times, many coaches adjust for weight, so absolute numbers don’t mean that much. You can google concept2 weight adjustment and will get some idea of comparison times for a 170lbs vs a 210 lbs rower.

My son was told by an Ivy coach that he was being offered the one LL they had for his spot and asked to put in his app asap. A couple of weeks later he called and said admissions had refused him the LL. His GC found out that the head coach had wanted an amazing pole vaulter and my son got bumped off. This was very distressing as he had missed the chance of applying early to other schools where he had been very strongly courted. The Ivy had done a preread and had him over for an OV.

We had been following all the advice on this forum. Unfortunately, due to the timing of the offered OVs at the 3 colleges he was most interested in, he could not decide on the right choice till it was almost the deadline for ED/EA and the denial came in after the deadline. And he had to tell the other 2 that he was taking the Ivy offer. The good news is that both coaches are still interested in him but they have given away their allotted spots but are working on taking spots from other coaches. We are presuming that since he did not apply ED to these two colleges, he will not get an official letter from admissions till the regular decision deadline of March 15. This has really increased the stress on my son especially after the previous letdown.

He is not sure if he should do more applications or just wait for these two. It has been hard as the ED decisions have been trickling in for his class fellows and he is beginning to feel that he would have got into either of the two colleges without doing athletic recruitment. So now we will end up spending several hundred dollars on all these applications which we were hoping to avoid.

I am trying to cheer him up by saying that he now has the opportunity to improve his track timings and maybe even get into Stanford which is his dream school!

fwiw I peek regularly…
I am surprised that the results are seemingly skewed toward Columbia…

I agree with Riverrunner–Our student had the LL in Oct and kiddo didn’t post it on FB until the Dec date–

Given that HYP etc have given their LLs for several sports, I am surprised there are no annoucements,

OTOH in the case of the two kids I am concerned about…neither has posted about their LLs on their FB…

This is depressing… the only people getting letters/admitted are going to Ivies or similar level schools…

Ionbeam,

Please don’t be depressed! Only Ivies extend likely letters. In addition, only a few schools, and they just happen to be Stanford + a few Ivies (Penn, Columbia, Dartmouth) have released decisions, as of last Friday. The whole panoply of D3 decisions is yet to come, in the next few days, not to say remaining Ivies, other D1’s etc. The dust is still whirling about, has hardly settled.

FogFog, OldScarecrow, have been hearing that Harvard and Princeton, newly returned to EA, have been issuing fewer LL’s than previously. Not gospel, just word-of-mouth. Possibly accounts for dearth of CC’ers reporting results. And one can’t discount that jinx factor either.
