I don't know if any of you have read Michele Hernandez's books (she was an adcom at...Dartmouth, maybe?) but she has two, A is for Admission and some other one about your specific application, I have skimmed through them both and they looked pretty interesting.

Anyway, what's the deal with attaching a resume/activity list? I know on Stanford's app (I just looked at it) that you can't attach an extra sheet, but I guess some schools allow you to. How do you know if you're allowed to do that?

What format should you put it in if you do? According to one of those books, you should make a chart that divides your things up (athletics, awards, work experience, summers, volunteers, arts, leadership) and then after doing the hours/week and weeks/yr then to write maybe 2-5 short sentences describing what was actually involved. Like the example I remember was that if you were a waitress at a restaurant, you could write that, but then you could also say how you were promoted, got a raise for being extra-dedicated, or helped design a new menu or something for the restaurant. Is that being redundant or bragging?

Also, if you DO attach something...are you still supposed to fill out the tiny activities chart in the regular app? Or just put like...SEE ATTACHED? Sorry for the 20 questions, but I figure somebody here knows, ya'll are all so smart about this stuff!

and how would u attach one of those sheets if you send in apps on-line..do u just mail it to the college and hope that they consider it with the application?

That's the main reason many people do paper for convenience of sending a resume attached. Either way, I am perhaps one of the few people on this site who is against attaching anything beyond that of the application itself. I personally think it's too excessive, but that's just me. So good luck with everything :D

I was wondering about this...do college admissions officers dislike it when you attach a resume? I had heard that they do so I was considering not attaching one, but I just don't know.

You really don't need to. They have a little - write down your most important activities here - spot on the application. Additionally, if you added an extra piece of paper to the app with about 15 rowas of activities, colleges will assume you're a laundry list activity kid - and you defintely don't want that.

I'm still in high school, but my brother, who went through this process last year, says you should really only list the activities that you were actively involved in on the little chart in the application. Only attach a sheet if you have something you feel you really have to convey to the admissions officers that simply cannot fit on the application. Otherwise, it will just seem like you are trying to fill up space or you aren't sure about your passions. Don't pack in too much.
