resume question

My D, a junior in HS is getting her resume together as she is going to apply to Summer Sessions for the Air Force Academy and Naval Academy. She has a question about a couple of activities that she has.

She ran track last year and is planning to run track again this year. Would it be ok to list an activity that you are going to do. She has another activity (a band function) that is by audition only. She was picked her Freshman and Sophomore year and I am sure that she will be picked again. Her chair was high enough that dropping out of the select band seems very improbable. But she won't know for sure until the end of January. Can she list that also?

It's confusing when you are trying to get a resume together and want to show commitment to an activity when some of those activities have not occured.

Her school does not hand many awards to freshman and sophomore but she's been invited to the Honors award day. Her only award has been for High Honor Roll, should she list this, it seems redundant considering her GPA?

Thanks.

I would say something like: Chosen for Select Band: 9th, 10th, anticipated 11th pending January audition. Something similar for track and then be sure she updates her file if things don't go as "anticipated." You'll get the commitment point across honestly. IMO, DON'T do this if the application specifically asks for 9th and 10th grade activities only. You should definately list High Honor Roll even if it seems redundant. Good luck

(Note: S, had a smilar question and this was the advice he was given by the Air Force for his USAFA application)

Thanks AFDAD2010, she'll appreciate the advice.

my d had similar instance and wrote the item down and in parentheses wrote "projected" and the year.

we also did something along the lines of what AFDAD2010 suggested....

and DO keep the CV honest....if things don't go as anticipated, make sure to "update" the CV..... as well as updating it for postitive things as well, for example, an honor earned.....
