For the UMich resume, they request that I include information regarding both theater and extracurricular activities. There is no way that I can fit that onto a theater resume. I have a theater resume specific to performing arts and an extracurricular resume for my school related activities.

I have kept my extracurricular resume to 2 pages and my theater resume to 1 page because I was told at Carnegie Mellon pre-college that theater resumes should only be 1 page because they won’t read further than that.

Also, on the University of Michigan application it says that I should upload the repertoire list and the resume as one document. So I was thinking that I would combine my theater resume, extracurricular resume, and my repertoire list as one document.

Good idea or bad?
I don’t want to get rejected just because my resume was screwed up :(

the website also asks me to list the names of the teachers I have worked with. I have listed the teacher's names for my private lessons, but for things like Carnegie mellon pre-college and other conservatories there are too many teachers to list.
Is that a big deal?
Plus I'm running out of room on my resume.

I just looked at the resume/repertoire document that my daughter sent when she applied two years ago. Her resume was two pages and her repertoire list was four pages. It was attached to the application as one document.

I seem to remember someone (from UM?) saying not to go over two pages for the resume - you might want to check on this. My d had one resume - she put her theatre roles on the first page and the second page was for other performances, awards, training and community service. And yes - I know she faced the dilemna, too, of having to take things off her resume to make it all fit. As far as the theatre experience, I think they are probably more interested in your recent and/or bigger roles.

As far as listing teachers - you wouldn't need to do this for a summer program - but do list the names of your acting and voice teachers in the training section. Sounds like you are on the right track with this.

Feel free to pm me if you have more questions. I remember well what a relief it was for my daughter to hit that "send" button!

This was definitely the most difficult and time consuming application. My D recreated a resume that included all of the things Michigan requested;extra curricular activities, honors, awards etc,. Then she had her repertoire list which she added on with adequate spacing to indicate a second document. It all uploaded together and looked OK when she previewed it. I don't think there is a real short cut in creating the resume without redoing your theatrical and academic resume and combining it in to one "professional resume"- I think that is what they call it.
Good luck, it was so exciting to press "submit"!

I asked about length before I submitted mine for the Sept 15 deadline for the Nov 21 audition and they said they length does not matter as long as it's not a novel and as long as it's organized. I think my Repertoire List was 6 pages including the Resume. I just used the resume that I normally staple to my headshot and copied and pasted it onto the last page of the Rep List. I had a page for High School/College Awards and Service, etc. Then 2 pages of all of my training, including all instruments and voice teachers etc. Then I had two pages of music that I have done with my voice teachers which I separated by Voice Teacher in order of earliest to most recent. It was the most exhaustive part of the application haha! Hope that helps! Best of luck to all that are auditioning. I'm just waiting and praying for the letter stating that I'm approved to audition. Does anyone know if we get that mailed to us or if we should just keep checking online on the Wolverine thing?

My d's letter came via email followed by same in snail-mail a week later. She was notified on September 15 by email that she was approved to audition 11/21. They included additional audition day info in the same email.

The website indicates to bring a headshot with resume attached to the audition. I’m assuming that the resume/HS is the “standard” one page resume attached to the back of a head shot that one would normally use for professional auditions. (Since the resume submitted for the **application process **is much longer than the typical “back of the HS” resume usually seen). But please confirm… what did others do?

Aspenwheezer…yes it is the “standard” one page resume attached to the back of a head shot that would be used for professional auditions. Hope this helps. :)

I did two pages for my resume (one my normal theatrical and the otehr page my extracurriculars and community service that they ask for). Then I included by repertoire list which was 3 pages. I think they understand that it will be more than 1 page especially since they ask for ALL theatre credits including school productions and also the other extracurricular stuff.

theatrenerd10: I believe Aspenwheezer’s question was what you bring to the audition, which is the one page standard resume and headshot. All that you listed is what they asked for in the application process, two separate things. In addition, I believe you need to write another essay to bring to the audition day, check the website. Good Luck! :)
