Resume??

Hi,
My prof has decided to help me write a rec, but she wants me to give her my resume. But I'm not entirely sure of what's supposed to go on this resume. Of course, I have to include my college extracurrics, but do i also have to include any stats, hs extracrurrics, etc?

Your professor just wants to know your highlights. It doens’t have to be a professional resume but something similar to bullet points that describes you as a person. By having this, the professor can have a better picture on you as an individual.

So should I include any hs activities or just college?

I would guess to include anything that you believe is relevant to describing you as a person, your work ethic/dedication, and your intellectual aptitude. I wouldn’t go as far back as like the first club you joined in 9th grade (unless you eventually became pres of the club or something), but if there were significant activities you were involved in during HS that helped in some way establish a base of your personality and included a significant accomplishment, then sure, why not? This can be especially true if you continued such an activity in college.

I think the concept is that over time those activities matter less in reflecting upon you as you move throughout life (i.e. complete gollege/grad school, get a job/establish a career, join a professional org, do community volunteering as an adult). That club in HS may not reflect who you have become once your 45 with an established career and your kids are now thinking about college.

Hope that helps some.

Also depends on the time frame.

If you’re applying as a junior transfer, I would focus on my collegiate activities. Although, that does not mean to forget HS activities you have carried over. For example, if you volunteered all throughout high school and into college then that’s something I would list. However, a year in track or a sport you don’t participate is not relevant in my opinion.

Yes that really helped! Thanks! :)
