What’s your take on updating schools on recent musical accomplishments? My son takes an updated resume into his auditions, though some aren’t interested (Eastman faculty didn’t even want the Audition Form that students were asked to complete beforehand). He could always email one in, but maybe it’s all about the audition anyway.
I think it depends on how significant the new accomplishments are. For example, winning a regional or national competition would be probably merit an update, but doing a recital or winning a local competition might not.
Thank you for responding @glassharmonica! My son’s not one to toot his own horn, that’s for sure.
(Maybe I should start another thread just for musical idioms)
My S only did a resume for one school, and that’s the one he got into. It was a commercial music program and he was applying for guitar which we knew was very competitive. So he did a resume listing all of his performances and included a CD of songs he had written and recorded with two different bands. He brought this in a nice folder to his audition and left it with one of the judges. I don’t know if it made a difference or not, but I think it set him apart from others that day who did not bring anything but their guitar. I thought it was important since he didn’t do any guitar work in high school and there was not a place on the application to list performances or original songs.
Interesting coincidence @honestmom! My son has been bringing in his resume and lead sheets in a folder to every audition. Some seem very happy to have it as reference; others seem to have a policy to accept nothing which is fine too, although it’s been a convenient way to update the school on recent honors etc.
