Retail stores and new CDC mask updates

I just got info from the hotel where we are staying in NY that they are still requiring masks indoors.

We still have mask mandates in place until June 15th here in California. I did notice yesterday when I picked up bagels at Einstein that they had removed the stickers on the floor to keep people six feet apart, but everyone still was wearing their masks.

Absolutely, it is great seeing people’s expressions again.

It seems to be a mixture of stores and restaurants that still require masks. I went to the Safeway and I’m not sure if the masks were required or not, but I wore one as I was going to the pharmacy (which is just the back row of the store but masks are required at the pharmacy as it is a health care facility. One thing I’m thrilled about is they removed the stickers for the one way aisles! I never followed them as I’m usually walking without a cart and just need one thing in a few aisles, but I felt guilty about breaking the rules (but the mask covered my guilt).

I saw a young guy walking his dogs pass by my house. No shirt on, but a mask. Maybe it was for allergies as there is about 2 feet of pollen piled up on surfaces. Well, maybe an inch but I’m sniffling like it is 2 feet.

@Marilyn , I was just in a DSW last weekend. They were not requiring masks. About half the patrons were masked.

This is what they say on the website for our local store, so one hopes they are observing that. I will see when I head out there. Luckily they are big enough stores that you can avoid being too close to others, although being fully vaccinated, I should be ok.

In addition to deep-cleaning and sanitizing our stores, we are requiring all guests to wear masks in our stores, and associates will wear protective gloves & masks and deliver your order without contact to keep you safe and healthy.

Must have some leeway depending on the region they are in, though it’s quite possible I missed the sign.

Today I went to the local AAA office and DSW. AAA had a security guard at the door and in and out directions. Masks were required and all were wearing them. It was fairly busy but only a short line to get the maps I came for. DSW had a large sign at the entrance requiring masks and everyone was compliant.

Mall of America has signs recommending masks and just about everyone was wearing one except for one person.

We just booked a local fireworks cruise for the 4th of July. I talked to the captain about protocols (and the menu). He basically said “this is how we are doing it now” on their whale watching cruises - 50% capacity, vaccinated and unvaccinated sections, boxed food. He said they won’t know what they will or won’t be changing until June 15 when the governor says restrictions will be lifted. Of course that doesn’t mean the county will necessarily lift all restrictions. The captain also sounded frustrated that they had no way to confirm vaccinations - and most passengers were going to that section.

I saw the first “no mask required for fully vaccinated customers” at a restaurant today.

Most folks still had them on, probably out of habit, as did all staff.

PA announced the mask mandate would be lifted June 28, or earlier if the state hits the 70% fully vaccinated threshold before then.

50% were fully vaccinated last week and 70% having their first dose was announced yesterday. So maybe by the 15th or so. They’re not adding on the “14 days after your last dose” period.

I took the dog to the dog wash today. Masks recommended but not required. That was nice because it is a workout to get that stubborn bulldog washed.

We went to a restaurant today that you order to go at an outside window with no seating anywhere and everyone was social distancing. Family is fully vaccinated and I did not wear a mask but other customers were which I am fine with, but I was definitely getting some stares for not masking-up which I am also fine with

I received an email from our management agent for the apartment - “we can’t tell who is vaccinated, therefore we are going to require everyone to wear a mask in the public area until further notice.”

As it should be. Those who dont want to be vaccinated aren’t going to admit it. The state that I am in has a 50% adult vaccine rate. That’s it enough for me to trust people

Yikes, not enough!

I am not immunocompromised. I take my mask off whenever I can. I am not worried if others are lying on their vaccine status or not. Chances of me getting infected from an unvaccinated is minuscule. Even smaller to pass it onto others. I know two people who are refusing the vaccine. They are not liars as far as I know.

Our local chain grocery store is not going to require masks starting Monday. I talked with the check out person today, who is half vaccinated, and she said even if fully vaccinated, she is scared. I am going to continue to mask up to protect workers, even though I am fully vaccinated. I think it would be reassuring to front line workers.

Last night I ate out for the first time, outdoors, with my visiting daughter and cousin and his wife. I asked the waiter if he was vaccinated and when he said yes, I took off my mask, saying “okay I don’t need to wear this to protect you.”

did you happen to ask the check out clerk why only half-vaccinated? (Didn’t many/most states give priority to grocery clerks in the vax queue? Given that’s she’s “scared”, why not vaccinated sooner?)

Out state did not give priority to grocery workers. I think she got her first dose when her age group became eligible. I thought it was interesting that even after full vaccination she will be nervous, mainly because of the volume of people and the fact that this is a tourist area where people come from all over. At least that is how she explained.
