My state doesn’t have great numbers in terms of % vaccinated, though I suspect my city is better than the state average. Politics are dictating public health policy here, so I don’t imagine any mitigation actions will be taken, so as BunsenBurner says, it, will be up to individuals to try to reduce their risk.
California has a vaccine registry.Individuals have access for a digital record and health care providers have access. I was able to access my digital record. I get my medications at CVS and they also had a record of my vaccination.
Today I was out. Last week, same location…no one was wearing a mask last week. Today, more than half of the folks were wearing masks. This included both workers and customers.
My husband is in NYC visiting his sister - they took the subway to the 911 Museum. He said subway was 99% masked and Museum 98%. SIL said she felt uncomfortable at the museum; husband did not. But he’s 6 feet tall and she’s 5 feet, if that. I told husband having your head higher than most other people may make you feel different.
Been to a couple of grocery stores here in San Diego and people are roughly 1/3 to 1/2 masked.
I am not only on the California vaccine registry, but the vaccination site we went to was administered by UCSD Health and I’m one of their patients, so it’s in their system too on my record. It even knows both doses were administered to my left deltoid!
D2’s boyfriend got his Pfizer shot last week, after having J&J, just by making an appointment. D2 has an appointment later this week after her bar exam. CDC is not coming out with an official statement about getting a Pfizer or Moderna shot after J&J, but many doctors are recommending it. The NY Times had a writeup about it.
I was asked to either put on a mask or show proof of vaccination when I entered a small boutique store near my home a few days ago. This is an area with 70%+ vax rate. The two employees were wearing masks. There were no other shoppers. I did not have a mask with me, so I ended up showing a photo of my vax card. Interesting experience.
I made an appointment to have my fingerprints taken, and the website said that masks were required (it’s at a mailing/post office type store), so I threw 2 in my purse. I used to keep some in my purse all the time but the last time I took them out to wash I never put them back.
I was the only one wearing it and so took it off as it was a hot day. I’ll keep masks in my purse as I think they are going to be required in more places soon (or just a good idea).

I know people are all concerned about fake news now, and that could include NY Times for some people. Check with your doctor. I am not trying to convince anyone to do this.

The article said to get a second dose of mRNA rather than a J&J. There is no need to get 2 doses of mRNA, one dose is sufficient.
Mask wearing here in central MA seems to be holding steady at about a third in retail stores based on my trips this weekend.
In response to speculation up thread that those of Asian descent are more likely to be masked than others - I’m not seeing that here. Most mask wearing people were white; most of those who appeared Asian were unmasked.
All states/commnities were supposed to be tracking vaccinations as a condition to receive the vaccines from the feds – its a CDC requirement, presumably to better track folks is an issue is found.
Of course, every state is a ‘laboratory’ so some will track better than others.
Several counties in California are now going back to indoor mask requirements for everyone.
However, there is a loophole for “actively eating and drinking”, so indoor dining at restaurants and drinking at bars is still allowed, despite being one of the highest risk activities for virus spread. But some bars have already gone further and made proof of vaccination required for entry.
Kind of the opposite here in California. Masks came off slowly in mid-June, but White people were the fastest to remove masks, and Asian people the slowest.
I volunteer in a place with a retail store. The folks who run it decided to require masks upon entry and posted this on the door. Our state is recommending indoor mask wearing. They have good reasons for doing so.
If someone forgets a mask, we do have some we can offer them.
Well…yesterday, a number of folks came in without masks. They were politely directed to the posted sign and the vast majority pulled out masks from pockets or wherever. A few people said “if masks are required here, I’m leaving”. Choices choices.
I walked through my downtown yesterday and “mask required” signs are back up almost everywhere.
Mask wearing seems to be primarily a function of the local population. Few wear masks in stores in the redder districts even when crowded in my blue state (where mask wearing is still mostly optional) while mask wearing is much more prevalent in stores in the bluer districts. The difference is stark.
I would find it helpful upon reading these updates of places returning to masks in public places/stores if posters would indicate their state/region. You don’t have to name your city if you prefer, but “Northern Ohio” or something similar would paint a better picture of whose doing what.
With the exception of one county (I believe) all of CT is recommended to wear masks indoors again.
