So far, I have taken the math II SAT2 twice. The first time was towards the end of freshman year during which I took algebra 2/trig. Looking back, it was a horrible decision my mom pushed me into; my teacher was horrible and I ended up with a 740. I took it in the middle of my sophomore year while I was taking Calc BC and got a 770 because I hadn't done any algebra or geometry stuff for a while and I felt like I had to take it because of the previous score. (5 and A/A in BC though) My top three schools are Stanford, Caltech, and MIT and I know that most of the people who apply there have an 800 math 2 score. This year I am taking calc d and linear algebra through a college and have studied for SAT1 math(got an 800) and AMC12, so I feel like I could definitely get an 800 this time around. My question is will these colleges will really dislike that I had to take it three times, even though the first one was freshman year?

Dude, it's all right if you want to take it a third time.

hey!

if you feel COMPLETELY confident that you can get an 800 this time around, i would say go for it. a 770 is still an awesome score for stanford, but yes, i would say retake if you're looking at the math/science centered schools like CIT or MIT.

good luck!

also, if you want to brush up on a little more algebra/geometry, i would suggest looking at the princeton review math 2 prep book - a good summary of formulas and strategies that helped me go from a 740 after algebra 2/trig to an 800 when i started taking calculus.

What's a 770, one or two questions missed? Personally I don't see why a college should be alarmed about a student that missed a question on a test getting into their college. They don't expect 800, but there's always a score where they will start to look down upon you like a 740 or below. If you know that you CAN get an 800, then take it.

Actually, a 770 is about 6 or 7 questions missed.

What's the max score then, 800? I thought that SAT IIs would function like SAT Is in terms of scoring and curves. Do they go into 5s like 775 or what?
