I am a high school sophomore who just completed pre cal honors. I took the Math 2 today, and I skipped five questions and got 2 or 3 wrong. I need the generous curve at a 43 to get an 800. If I get a 780 or 790, is it worth retaking the Math 2. I read some stats that said that 11% of all college bound seniors score an 800 on the Math 2. I plan on applying to high level tier one schools, mainly ivies and pseudo ivies. I was wondering if its really worth it to retake the Math 2.

I don’t think it’s worth retaking if you got a 750+. Remember, mostly the BEST of the BEST are taking Math II. If you score in the 80th percentile, thats probably more like the 90 something percentile if every person who’s taken pre calc were to take the test.

I got a 760 on the chem SAT II last year (sophomore year) and it was only like the 82nd percentile or something like that. Still, my teacher who is also the AP chem teacher told me it’s an excellent score. Keep in mind that, while percentiles are important, for most SAT II’s the pools are skewed since many colleges don’t require them so only the people who apply to 1st tier/high 2nd tier schools take them.
