Hi, I got a 2190 in the SAT and I'm wondering whether I should retake in December (applying RD) or simply focus on school work and essays (I've got so much going on with IB and applications because I've applied to the US and the UK).

Is this score likely to put me at any disadvantage - I see people with 2300+ getting rejected and I wonder whether a lower score will only further justify a rejection.

My breakdown is 720, 720 (CR and W) and 750 (M). I'm glad that I've broken 700 in all sections, but the maths curve both times I took it was really harsh. I've gotten -2 twice and it's given me 740 and 750. I feel like I can improve math and writing, but CR is unlikely to improve in the little time I have (because I have so many other commitments).

What are your thoughts?

I'm also applying to MIT and Berkeley, but Stanford is my first choice (my gosh I'm in love with the university!)

essays are the most important! whether you get a 2190 or it goes up a little bit, essays are still gonna be the most significant part. the adcom is not gonna overanalyze test scores. if you are in a certain range (which you likely are), then they don’t really use that score again. only take the sat again if you are sure your score will go up, and after you finish your essays! hope i helped.

Well, I think you just answered your own question. Like you said, Stanford even rejects applicants with 2300+ SAT scores. So is it really worth retaking? Probably not, in my opinion. Your score is high enough to be competitive with most applicants, and it is definitely not a crutch, so focus on the other parts of your application. :)

If you have 800 on Math II (which you should for NIT ;)), you don’t need to worry about SAT I math. In any case, if you get rejected, it will not be because of your scores.
