Only I’m taking a gap year to work on my art right now. I’m already done with high school and there is no way to fix my grades.

Exactly! My preparation consisted of College Board’s 8 practice tests. The only section I had trouble with was M, and not because I didn’t understand the problems but because I kept making careless mistakes, though there were less and less of them as I went through the tests. I literally needed one more study session to feel ready.

I don’t know if anyone needs my advice, but in my experience scoring highly on the SAT is all about familiarizing yourself with the types of questions. So, there you go. Once you’ve done that, your preparation is 90% done.

I think that 2350 is the absolute maximum for which one should bother to retake it, and then only in special cases. You want to study physics at Stanford, and your scores are 800-750-800? Yes, it’s worthwhile to re-take the math. Also, writing is generally valued less than the other sections, I think… There’s a reason that people still compare their CR+M scores sometimes. Anyway, if your lowest score is writing, and it’s still somewhere between 720 and 750, it might make you uncomfortable not to retake but I would not.

Not quite. There are times when the lack of Score Choice’s being allowed for some schools and the relatively significant opportunity cost render not retaking the better option. That is a minority of the time, however.
