Retakes?

Ok, so in June I got a 730 on Math II, a 690 on Physics, and a 690 on Lit. I'm really not overjoyed with my Math score, but I can live with it - my dilemma is with the other two. I consider myself a very good English student, but the Lit test is so random I'm afraid that I might not do any better on a retake now matter how much I study. As far as Physics goes, I'm really confused because I did well on my AP and IB tests, and poorly on this. I'm not sure it would be wise to retake just because the material won't be fresh in my mind. So what do I do? As of right now I think I'm going to retake Lit and replace Physics with Spanish...good plan?

Oh, and one other thing - do you think decent (but not stellar) scores in four subject areas would be ok for top colleges if the rest of my scores/grades/etc are on or above par for the college?

u're fine those scores aren't bad....i would just study and retake maybe the math II and lit, even though, if u dont want to u dont have to......but when applying to top colleges you want to score as high as you can in order to maximize ur chances.

Ahhh...just missed the 700 cutoff I suppose. I don't know what schools you want to apply to, but in general (i.e. unless you're going "top tier" here) those are decent scores. How do your scores compare with your practice tests? (And, how much did you discipline yourself during those practice tests - did you follow time limits, rules, etc. exactly or were you slightly lax with them?)

If I were you, I might actually retake the math as well, since you seem to be okay with that subject. With a generous curve, if you can get it above 750 (which is actually in the +/- 30 range anyway), it might help your chances to have one stellar SAT grade. Of course, it is definitely unnecessary.

Literature is a bit based on luck, I suppose. But doesn't the CollegeBoard have that new score reporting policy? Maybe take it and not report it to schools? I don't really understand how that works, however. You should look that up on the CollegeBoard homepage.

And as far as replacing Physics with Spanish, that depends on how well you speak Spanish.

Also, about the 4 subject areas: that really depends on what areas. If you're talking about doing decently on math, science, english, and history, and saying you got stellar grades in art, gym, and music...well I don't know xD No offense to art, gym, and music teachers (just using you guys as an example), because I hear some top schools actually redo your gpa on the so-called academic subjects and redo the weighting (ex. 5.0 is max in AP classes, 4.5 is max in honors classes, etc.) so they can compare everyone's gpa.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
