Like many 8th graders, I took Algebra 1 Honors. Unfortunately, I received a B for second semester. I retook the semester that summer, and got an A. Currently, my transcript shows the 3 Algebra 1 H courses i took: 2 at my middle school, and the one second semester class I took in summer school. The A i earned in summer school hasn’t overridden the B, and i was wondering if I should tell my counselor to override it. This would boost my GPA and rank, but I’m not sure as to how it would look to colleges. On a new transcript with the overridden grade, it wouldn’t even show what i got for second semester algebra 1 in my middle school: it would just show an “R”, which stands for “Retaken”. It instead would show just my semester 1 and summer school grades, which would higher both my rank and GPA. Should i tell my counselor to override the B? I know it seems quite petty, but I’m still worried that the B would have a bad connotation to the top-tier colleges i am planning on applying for. I’m a sophomore, btw. Thanks!!
Are you sure your middle school grades will be on your transcript? They ttypically arent. I would talk to your GC about it
How will they know what you got before if it just says “R” for retaken? If I didn’t know you got a B, I’d assume the worst, like you failed it. (Because who retakes a B?)
You need to find out what your school’s policy is about this. It may be the policy to leave all the grades on the transcript.
Who retakes a B to get a better grade? B Is passing!!!
