Retaking SAT & ACT - should we do both?

Hi - My daughter is a junior & scored a 1930 on her SAT & 31 on her ACT. Should she retake both, or just go for a higher score on her ACT? Also, if she scored an 11 out of 12 on her ACT for the writing portion, is it ok to skip that the 2nd time around? Thanks!

Your daughter won’t be able to send your ACT scores to school that require writing if you dont take the writing portion, so she should take it with writing if the schools she’s applying to wants it.

She seemed to score way better on the ACT. She should just focus on the ACT instead of splitting between them.

I suggest retaking both. Sometimes you will show greater strength on some portions of one test than on the other. She doesn’t have to submit the SAT if her scores do not improve. I wouldn’t recommend taking either more than twice.

Thank you.

Since she already took the writing & got 11 out if 12 points we were thinking to skip the writing the 2nd time around. Can she send the writing score from the 1st ACT along with the composite of the 2nd ACT, if the 2nd ACT composite is higher than the 1st?

The ACT says you can do that, and colleges dont mention it clearly. I read a discussion about a student applying to Princeton that did that. The admission officer told him that everything he summited would be taken into consideration, but I still dont know if you can do that. Just ask colleges.

Also, some colleges make you send both SaT and ACT scores if you took both, so maybe she should try to improve her SAT. Again, check with colleges. (Yale)
