I recently achieved a 33 on the June ACT (33/34/29/35) with a 10 on the essay section.

Would it be even worth it to retake it? It was my first time taking it.

Bump…?

33 = 2160-2200 SAT is a very good score, it’s not going to hurt you. The only point that I would be concerned about is if your 29 is in Reading (which I believe is equivalent to the SAT CR), as that is the section IMO that you want to have above the 2100 threshold, and a 29 is not. Another consideration is whether your coursework or anything else in your application will compensate for a lower Reading score by demonstrating that you have excellent comprehension skills.

For more on retesting, see the link on this thread:

(p.s. no need to bump the day you start a thread)

So, if I take AP English Language and AP English Literature and get an A both semesters for both classes and get a 5 on both exams, will that compensate?

On the other hand, I wouldn’t have a problem retaking a couple more times if needed…
And another thing. I’m only a rising junior as of today.

(P.S. Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.)

I think once you eclipse 32 the admissions committee will give you the go ahead as far as standardized testing. 33 is certainly sufficient. I’d stop wasting time studying for that quasi-college-readiness exam and start pounding out essays.

I am not an authority on this, but my son’s college counselor advised that he re-take the ACT after he achieved a composite score of 33… and I don’t believe that my son had any individual score below 30. The comment was, “If you’re aiming for a place like Yale, a 33 is ok, but it’s not going to get you noticed.” He retook the ACT, got a 35, and it all ended happily - although of course a good standardized test score is no guarantee of admission.

I agree with the advice beatitudo repeats. I think a 29 in reading should probably be repeated if you you are aiming at the most selective schools, especially if you are only a rising junior.
