<p>I know where I want to go with my life, but I'm not sure how to start down the road to get there. I'm hoping someone here can give me some help!</p>
<p>I'm 33 years old. Went to college (NYU) after high school, but wasn't ready to take advantage of the opportunity. Didn't apply myself at all, because I had no notion of what I wanted to do with my life. I left school after 3 years upon realizing I was just wasting time and money by being there.</p>
<p>I feel like I am finally ready to go back. I have spent most of the years between then and now working as an Emergency Medical Technician, and I feel both drawn to and capable in the medical field. I have had medical school in the back of my mind for some time. Modesty aside, I'm a fairly sharp cookie, so I have no doubt I can hack it.</p>
<p>My question is this, where and how do I start? I never finished my BA, and honestly don't feel like I got much out of college. Part of me says to just start over so I can actually get a good educational foundation this time around.</p>
<p>I would like to go to a good school, but how do I display what I am capable of academically since my grades from over a decade ago don't reflect my potential? Should I start at a community college? Or can I display to a better school what I can do, by, say, retaking the SAT's?</p>
<p>Any help would be greatly appreciated!</p>

<p>Not sure if credits older than 10 years would be considered. It looks like you may have to start over. If that is the case, totally prep for the SAT and re-take it. Do not go to a community college unless you are sure your credits will count/transfer to a 4year college/university for pre-med requirements. Do not worry so much about which college you go to. Go to the college that is convenient, affordable, and where you can get the best grades in a pre-med program. (Sometimes “better” schools mean lower GPAs for pre-med students.)
Call the pre-med advisor at your local college/university, explain your situation, and ask for advice on how to get on the path toward your goal. Good luck.</p>
<p>since your record isn’t “gone”, you can probably finish up at nyu if they’ll have you back. if not, try to get those credits transferred over to another school so you can finish in 2. what was your old major? maybe you can switch to be a bio major or something and get in the prereqs since most med schools won’t take prereqs done over 5 or something years ago. i dont know what your financial situation is, but there are a bunch of SUNYs that will take 90 credits so you can knock out most requirements and focus on prereqs or there’s columbia’s GS for older/non-trad students and cornell has one, too, if you’re looking for more elite schools. i’d do some research and call up some places to see what they’ll do for you.</p>
